Our
level-one students begin by writing post cards and write complete
essays by third quarter.
We do this by giving students engaging topics, Internet-based
inspiration and diverse activities.
Projects include: Exaggerated Post Cards, skits, Fashion
Prescriptions, autobiographies and a Dream House essay. We will
discuss the technology we use and our instructional practices, i.e.
writing codes, Focus Correction Areas, rubrics and the beloved Genie
Rule.
Strategies presented are relevant to upper levels.

Technology-Infused Learning: Evolving Strategies (MFLA
'02)
Once upon a time, I created an Internet-based unit on the Day of the Dead. More aligned with the National Standards, and with a more thoughtful rubric, it is better today. Explore the evolution of this work and other technology-infused projects from our classroom. We will focus on the projects themselves and the classroom practices that make them possible. Day of the Dead: A Technology-Infused Model (MFLA '98)
This Day of the Dead unit is a practical model of how websites can facilitate cultural exploration. We begin by discussing
activities from initial brainstorming to creative cumulative projects. We then discuss how websites were located and effectively
reorganized. Finally we consider strategies to accommodate diverse teaching environments. Session is relevant to novice and
experienced computer-users. Model is easily adapted for other languages and language levels. Speaker utilizes PowerPoint,

Technology-Rich Foreign Language Classroom (MACUL '98)

This session will illustrate how Web sites provide essential resources for foreign language instruction and an approach for
developing Web-based activities. The session will include instructional strategies, sample activities, and yes, a plethora of
annotated URLs. Although specifically focused on second language education, the issues we address can benefit technology
implementation in a variety of disciplines and learning environments.
